Alan Harper - Eulogy

We were very sad to hear that earlier on this week; our very own Alan Harper had passed away. He was a key component of our swimming community and contributed his time, on endless occasions, to help out with numerous Colchester Swimming Club events. For this, we thank him. He shall not be forgotten for his generosity or his compassion, and will always be remembered as the kind character that he was. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends. May he rest in peace.

The Captains.

Captains Report - Essex County Age Group Championships - First Weekend

A huge well done to all those who attend the first round of the Essex County Championships this weekend! It was absolutely fabulous to see so many swimmers racing and supporting each other throughout the whole weekend.

The event kicked off with, Alex Cole competing in the strenuous 1500 front crawl, on his very own, late Friday night. With the time of 18:30.66, Alex took 6th place overall, a fantastic result which he should be very proud of.

The next day, the boys 50 freestyle took place with excellent swims from all who took part with PBs all round and Jarrod Bradfield securing a place in the finals to gain 3rd overall. Following this, Spencer Prior stormed through his 200 breaststroke slashing 3 seconds off his very recent PB earning 6th place overall. Continuing the recent success, Martha Duley followed with a 2:19 in her 200 backstroke earning a 7 second PB and a well deserved 1st place for her efforts.

On Sunday, the day was long and gruelling for young swimmers Charlotte Norman and Ciara Wookey who started off their day with the monstrous 200 butterfly. From their 1-2 finish in the 200 backstroke the previous day, with fantastic 20+ second PBs, they demonstrated their strong determination and will to succeed throughout the whole weekend and should be incredibly proud of themselves. Amongst the 10 year olds, Asma Parker swum a remarkable 50 front crawl race grabbing 2nd place overall in a terrific time of 31.79. Finally, Philippa Davenall ended the night on an incredible high, dominating her 50 breaststroke race breaking the 35 second barrier, to secure another win after her fantastic 200 breaststroke swim earlier on in the day.

The finals of throughout the weekend, proved to be nerve-wracking yet exciting with tremendous swims from Arran Francis, Charlotte Atkinson, Chloe Rudkin, Ellie Duley, Finn Jeffery, Isabella Tanenbaum, Jack Keane, Jamie Coles, Kalya Aung, Matthew Denny, Naythan Aung, Olivia Norman, Sophie Freeman and William Denny.

Well done to all who took part and we hope to see you ready for Block B!

Also, a huge well done to our women's captain Kaythi Aung who performed incredibly when in all of her races! She forget to mention her self because she is too polite, but she deserves some recognition for all her hard work! She reached many of the finals and represented her club exceptionally well! We are all very proud of her!

Laura back at Leisure World

It was lovely to see Laura Stevens back at Leisure World tonight! With admirable grace and humility, she returned to her home town club with a smile on her face and a skip in her step. She was a perfect sportswoman about her whole return. She spoke politely to everyone that came bearing questions and did not brag or boast about any of her incredible achievements. She was quietly confident and let her swimming do the talking; exactly how a true sportswoman composes herself. She joined in the warm up, like she had never left, and it was nice to see that her hard work is really paying off. I feel it is a message to all swimmers, that if you work hard and try your best, day in, day out, you can achieve anything you desire. It was great to see many of the swimmers looking up to her and I hope they can draw some inspiration from her. I would like to highlight her humble and gracious attitude that everyone should emulate. In my eyes it is these attributes that contribute massively to the athlete she is today. Nice to have you back Laura!

Essex Mini League Round 1 - Taylor's review

I attended the Colchester Mini League Gala the other night and was very impressed with the team spirit which everyone portrayed throughout the entire evening! It was an absolute pleasure to see everyone cheering each other on and creating an electric atmosphere around the pool. Everyone produced some great races that contributed towards an amazing team effort. Big shout out to Sam Low, Edward Cox, Sam Lemnell and David Purser who finished the gala with an excellent relay that they should all be proud of. Our very own Vice Captain Charlotte Holt swam in the gala and swam some cracking races. I was accompanied by Sophie Howard, Matt Lemnell and Alex Cole who all gave up their time to help out with the event. I would like to say thank you to all of you! You are all fantastic role models for the younger swimmers! Thank you again.

Sudbury Last Chance Open Meet

Well done to everyone who attended Sudbury open meet at the weekend! It was great to see so many swimmers there. On the Saturday I was very proud of everyone who participated. Moments which deserve specific recognition include the incredible efforts of Ariana in her 400m IM as well as Sam Horn and our very own Alex Cole taking on the 200m fly. Some monstrous races that they should be very pleased with. I would also like to congratulate Ana Victoria who broke her 40 second barrier on the 50m freestyle to achieve a fantastic PB. Gabby swam an inspiring 400m IM, and showed great determination throughout. There were a lot of swimmers who went away from the meet with country times, which is certainly a cause for celebration.

On behalf of all the swimmers, I would like to say thank you to the coaches that helped out at the weekend. You were all charming and supportive.
